UNOPS pledges in the strategy include: Reducing corporate emissions by 45 per cent by 2030, and achieving net-zero before 2050 Reducing energy use across our operations and offering more energy-efficient solutions in the projects we implement Integrating sustainable procurement and circular economy principles Tackling emissions in our supply chains, including Scope 3 value chain emissions Integrating climate risk screening in all UNOPS infrastructure projects Promoting nature-based infrastructure Increasing the climate resilience of our operations and personnel across around 200 offices globally Strong collaboration with our partners is a cornerstone of these efforts.
Last year, countries agreed to move away from fossil fuels, and to triple renewables capacity, double energy efficiency, and halt deforestation by 2030. Yet 2024 stands to most likely be the hottest on record.
News The importance of inclusive infrastructure for climate action 14 November 2022 Inclusive and rights-based climate action must be integrated into infrastructure development to support the Paris Agreement and Sustainable Development Goals, according to UNOPS latest research.
This means - in alignment with the Paris Agreement - that we will reduce our corporate emissions, including those from corporate procurement, by 45% by 2030, and to reach net zero before 2050.
Throughout the years, we have, together with our partners, achieved urgent and tangible results on the ground. We have supported countries in reducing emissions, built capacity to adapt to climate impacts and enhance resilience, and helped rebuild livelihoods after disaster hits.
There is an urgent need to ensure vulnerable developing countries hardest hit by the climate emergency can access the technical assistance they need to foster resilience, build capacity, and manage climate-related loss and damage.
