We must protect mothers when they are at their most vulnerable. Hands must be washed. Immunization must be performed. Water must be safe. Much of the same goes for sanitation. And for schools. Harassment of girls and women in daily situations is a global problem.
From expanding access to education and healthcare to strengthening women's leadership, the fight for gender equality is far from over. Investing in women and girls means investing in stronger, more resilient societies.
The facilities will provide inclusive spaces where women and girls can access essential social and economic empowerment programmes as well as strengthen the institutional capacity of the ministry and improve service delivery.
Gender equality and social inclusion are key to creating the conditions for people to live a life they value, where their needs are met, their human rights are protected, and they are able to participate equally in society, as promised in Agenda 2030.
They explored gender equality issues through the overarching lens of cultural change, leadership, accountability, sustainability, international development and humanitarian aid, as well as challenges and actions that can be taken in the private sector.
Last year our colleagues in UN Women provided some stark numbers: Globally, around 15 million primary school-aged girls are out of school, compared to 10 million boys Women hold only 24 per cent of parliamentary seats The gender pay gap stands at 23 percent And gender-based violence remains a global pandemic In a 2019 study, the World Bank found that women's legal rights are equal to men in only six countries in the world.
But for gender parity to become a reality in any organization, there must also be viable options to balance one's professional and private life. Opportunities for true work-life balance must exist – for both women and men. Accommodating the personal commitments personnel have outside of work is important.
Amid the chaos and conflict that erode the rights of women and girls we must create safe spaces for dialogue. Achieving gender equality is a priority for the United Nations family. A key factor in reaching the Global Goals. And essential for fully functioning societies, communities and economies. Explore further.
Equal voices, equal access Engaging some women isn't enough. For participatory approaches to work, we need to create environments that are accessible to all women. Age, employment, caste, ethnicity, religion, socio-economic status, postal code: These too must be taken into account. As does logistics.
