To help achieve this, we launched our Climate Action Programme in 2024 and developed a comprehensive climate strategy . We are also assessing climate risks and emissions across our organization to gather data. But the decentralized nature of UNOPS presents a challenge.

The Initiative for Climate Action Transparency (ICAT) aims to support developing countries in building transparency frameworks for effective climate action. Hosted by UNOPS, ICAT is driving this crucial work by providing countries with the tools and data needed for informed policy decisions.

Accelerating transformational change In 2025, countries are expected to renew and update their commitments to the global fight against climate change by submitting a revised national climate action plan to cut emissions and adapt to climate change – also referred to as Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs).
Funded by the Global Environment Facility, the programme focuses on integrated ocean management and sustainable economic growth. By turning big ideas into practical solutions, the programme supports grassroots initiatives, empowers local communities and fosters a sense of shared purpose.
WEC's Action for Climate Targets - also known as WEC ACT- is the dedicated climate action pillar of this portfolio. It is channeling its climate related operational expertise and experience for tailored support, and the ability to coordinate between partners and initiatives, where needed.
UNOPS pledges in the strategy include: Reducing corporate emissions by 45 per cent by 2030, and achieving net-zero before 2050 Reducing energy use across our operations and offering more energy-efficient solutions in the projects we implement Integrating sustainable procurement and circular economy principles Tackling emissions in our supply chains, including Scope 3 value chain emissions Integrating climate risk screening in all UNOPS infrastructure projects Promoting nature-based infrastructure Increasing the climate resilience of our operations and personnel across around 200 offices globally Strong collaboration with our partners is a cornerstone of these efforts.
