Somalia, Sudan, Afghanistan, Haiti, and the Democratic Republic of the Congo – all are UNOPS primary countries of delivery. Operations across our global portfolio also show women are under-represented. We recognize this and are committed to taking actions to address this challenge.
Our towering S3i commitment to help build more than 860000 homes over the next decade, in Kenya, Ghana, India, Pakistan and across the Caribbean, makes a tangible difference in people's lives. In Kenya, the first of 100000 planned homes has been built, in a scheme that – to quote President Uhuru Kenyatta - “addresses the lack of access to affordable and accessible financing for ordinary Kenyans who want to own an affordable home.” In Antigua and Barbuda, Prime Minister Gaston Browne recently said his government “fully endorsed” our work on affordable housing.
In just one year, we have made significant strides. But we know there is more to be done and we are ready to build on these strong foundations.

The Somali National Blood Bank can store up to 10000 units of donated blood. In 2023, the facility was inaugurated by Prime Minister Hamza Abdi Barre, who described it as a major milestone in Somalia's efforts to provide safe and reliable blood products to those in need.
It is on this topic – partnerships – that I would like to talk about. Our mission is to help people build better lives and countries to achieve peace and sustainable development. As a self-financed organization, our main role is to help our partners achieve their objectives.
Or in Kenya, with UNICEF, we build on existing cultural practices. We provide training to challenge gender norms and stereotypes, to positively impact the lives of women and girls in remote communities. This is part of a broader project where we build and improve health centres across Kenya.
Among the challenges, housing is in desperate need. Our work with the government extends nationwide. It aims to improve around 6000 family homes, in more than 60 locations. The list goes on. Of course these are select cases.
These are just some examples. But we want to do more. Allow me to also briefly discuss the challenges and opportunities that SIDS face - in terms of procurement.

(en anglais) [Check against delivery] Annual Results Thank you, Mr. President, It is a great pleasure to be here in New York with you all. I am delighted to report on our performance last year. I can be brief. 2018 was our most successful year on record. We increased our top line delivery from $1,8 billion in 2017 to around $1,9 billion in 2018, which should be measured against our astonishing increase of about 25% from 2016 to 2017.
