Throughout the years, we have, together with our partners, achieved urgent and tangible results on the ground. We have supported countries in reducing emissions, built capacity to adapt to climate impacts and enhance resilience, and helped rebuild livelihoods after disaster hits.
They mean the use of local supply chains, support for local contractors, and transfer of cutting-edge technologies. And through the building of sustainable, climate-resilient homes, they mean creating an infrastructure that can cope with future climate threats. Cities are a key part of the solution to our climate crisis.
Last year, countries agreed to move away from fossil fuels, and to triple renewables capacity, double energy efficiency, and halt deforestation by 2030. Yet 2024 stands to most likely be the hottest on record.
We help communities and countries build resilience and adapt to changing climatic conditions. And we broker partnerships and manage multi stakeholder initiatives for climate action. Throughout, we promote environmentally friendly practices in the way we conduct our business.
This means - in alignment with the Paris Agreement - that we will reduce our corporate emissions, including those from corporate procurement, by 45% by 2030, and to reach net zero before 2050.

Through the Initiative for Climate Action Transparency (ICAT), which UNOPS hosts, we have established a practical tool for assessing loss and damage and supported its application for early warning monitoring and evaluation frameworks to manage disaster risks from slow onset events such as sea-level rise.
We must recall that infrastructure decisions are central to climate action. Infrastructure is responsible for 79 per cent of all greenhouse gas emissions and 88 per cent of all adaptation costs.
One of the many ways in which UNOPS supports climate action is through the Initiative for Climate Action Transparency (ICAT). ICAT was established in 2015 at the COP that adopted the Paris Agreement, to support implementation of the Agreement's Enhanced Transparency Framework.
It is undeniable that the devastating impacts of climate change disproportionately affect the world's most vulnerable populations, threatening their livelihoods, security and future prosperity. To address this challenge, comprehensive frameworks for support, such as the Santiago network, are indispensable.
