Since answering its first call in May 2018, the centre's eight multi-lingual operators – four of whom are women – have handled over 50000 calls. Twenty percent of callers seeking advice and assistance were female.

In many areas of the country, basic social services, such as education and health, are provided by humanitarian organizations. But only about 2.5 per cent of the road network in the country is paved. This makes it difficult for vehicles to reach more isolated communities – and the rainy season makes it even worse.
"Many critical elements of any humanitarian response are dependent on fuel – infrastructure is not functional without basic power supplies. Given the scale of needs in Gaza this element is even more critical,” he added. Explore further.
Using a toll-free number, those who've been forced to leave their homes and seek shelter can receive information on how to access humanitarian aid – including food, child protection and healthcare. "We give people scattered across more than 3000 locations in Iraq a voice to ask questions, seek explanation, raise serious issues and lodge complaints," explained UNOPS project manager, Charlotte Lancaster.
